This Privacy Policy explains what information WaterHeaterLab collects when you visit https://waterheaterlab.com, how we use it, and the choices you have. We keep it in plain English on purpose: this is a content site — we publish water-heater comparisons, sizing guides and cost-of-ownership analysis — and we collect far less data than most online services. Still, some data is collected automatically, and some is collected only with your consent. Here is exactly what happens.
Who we are
WaterHeaterLab (https://waterheaterlab.com) is published and operated by NET STUDIO LLC, 1501 South Greeley Hwy, Ste C #1386, Cheyenne, WY 82007, USA. NET STUDIO LLC is the data controller for the personal information described in this policy. You can reach us at contact@waterheaterlab.com or by phone at +1 307 316 0827. More detail about the site and its publisher is available on our About page and in our Legal Notice.
What data we collect
We collect information in four limited ways:
- Server logs. Like virtually every website, our hosting infrastructure automatically records technical data when a page is requested: IP address, date and time, the URL requested, browser type and operating system, and the referring page. These logs exist for security, debugging and abuse prevention, and are deleted on a rolling basis.
- Analytics data. With your consent, Google Analytics 4 collects usage data such as pages viewed, approximate location (city level), device type and how you arrived at the site. See the Google Analytics section below.
- Comment data. If commenting is enabled on an article and you leave a comment, we store the name and email address you provide, the comment text, and your IP address (used for spam filtering).
- Communications. If you email us at contact@waterheaterlab.com or call +1 307 316 0827, we keep the correspondence for as long as needed to answer you and maintain a record of the exchange.
We do not require accounts, we do not run newsletters that harvest emails without asking, and we never ask for payment information — there is nothing to buy here.
Cookies and consent
Cookie consent on this site is managed by the Complianz consent banner. When you first visit, the banner lets you accept or refuse cookies by category: functional cookies (necessary for the site to work, always active), statistics cookies (Google Analytics 4) and marketing cookies (advertising, including Google AdSense). Non-essential cookies are not set until you consent, and you can change or withdraw your choices at any time through the cookie settings link in the site footer.
A complete, regularly updated list of the cookies used on this site is published in our Cookie Policy.
Google Analytics 4
We use Google Analytics 4 (deployed through Google Site Kit) to understand which guides people read, how they find us and where content falls short. Analytics runs only after you consent to statistics cookies. Google Analytics 4 does not log or store individual IP addresses; it reports aggregated, approximate location data. We use this information solely to improve our content — we do not sell it, and we do not use it to identify individual visitors. You can additionally block Google Analytics in any browser with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
Google AdSense and third-party advertising
WaterHeaterLab is supported by display advertising. The site may show ads served by Google AdSense. Google and its certified advertising partners may use cookies — including third-party cookies — to serve ads and, where you have consented, to personalize them based on your visits to this and other websites. Advertising cookies are set only if you accept the marketing category in the consent banner.
Your controls:
- Refuse or withdraw consent for marketing cookies at any time via the Complianz banner — you will then see non-personalized ads, or fewer ads.
- Manage ad personalization across all Google services at Google Ads Settings.
- Read how Google uses data from sites that use its services at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
One point of editorial hygiene worth stating plainly: advertising on this site is served independently of our editorial verdicts. Advertisers do not influence which water heaters we recommend, and we accept no referral fees from installers or manufacturers.
Legal bases and your choices
Where the GDPR or similar laws apply, we process personal data on the following bases: consent for analytics and advertising cookies (which you may withdraw at any time), legitimate interest for server logs, security and spam prevention, and performance of your request when you contact us and we respond. Declining non-essential cookies never prevents you from reading anything on this site.
Data retention
We keep data no longer than needed. Server logs are retained for a short rolling period (typically a few weeks) for security purposes. Google Analytics 4 event data is retained for the standard period configured in our property (14 months) before automatic deletion. Email correspondence is kept as long as reasonably necessary to handle your inquiry and any follow-up. Comment data remains as long as the comment is published or until you ask us to remove it.
Your privacy rights
Visitors in the EEA and the United Kingdom (GDPR)
If you are located in the European Economic Area or the UK, you have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or erased, to restrict or object to its processing, to data portability, and to withdraw consent at any time without affecting prior processing. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority. To exercise any of these rights, email contact@waterheaterlab.com.
Visitors in California and other US states (CCPA/CPRA)
If you are a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the CPRA gives you the right to know what personal information we collect and how it is used, the right to delete personal information we hold, the right to correct inaccurate information, and the right to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. Residents of other states with comparable privacy laws (including Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut and Texas) have similar rights.
We do not sell personal information. Third-party advertising cookies may constitute “sharing” for cross-context behavioral advertising under the CPRA; you can opt out simply by refusing marketing cookies in the consent banner, or by contacting us. We honor rights requests without discrimination — exercising your rights will never degrade your access to the site.
Children’s privacy
WaterHeaterLab is written for homeowners and other adults making water-heater decisions. It is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13, consistent with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA). If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
International data transfers
Our site is hosted by o2switch (SAS), 222-224 Boulevard Gustave Flaubert, 63000 Clermont-Ferrand, France. This means technical data such as server logs is processed on servers located in France, within the European Union, under EU data-protection law. Analytics and advertising data processed by Google may be transferred to and processed in the United States and other countries under Google’s applicable data-transfer safeguards.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy when our tools, legal obligations or practices change — for example, if we add or replace an analytics or advertising service. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page always reflects the current version, and material changes will be visible here before they take effect.
